Leonid Tyagachyov turns 71!

Today the Honorary President of the Russian Olympic Committee Leonid Vasilyevich Tyagachyov turned 71! The team of the ROC congratulates him on his birthday and wishes strong health, inexhaustible energy and family well-being.

Leonid Tyagachyov headed the ROC for almost nine years from July 2001 to March 2010. Earlier (1996 to 1999) he served as Chairman of the State Committee of the Russian Federation for Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism, and in 1999-2001 he was the ROC First Vice-President.

Tyagachyov was part of the USSR Alpine Skiing team, and he was the champion of the country. Moreover, he was the winner of the USSR Football Championship among the physical culture teams and received the master of sports title for it.

Leonid Vasilievich has brought up a galaxy of strong athletes as head coach of the USSR and Russian national Alpine Skiing teams. Under his guidance, a number of centers for winter sports were created. Leonid Tyagachyov was awarded high state awards for his long-term work for the benefit of national sport.
