    On February 10-11, the ROC will hold a traditional Winter Sports Day. This event has been held since 2015 all around the country on the first weekend after the launch of the Sochi Olympic Games. The main goals of the Winter Sports Day is to promote Olympic ideals and healthy lifestyle among all segments of the population, as well as attract as many people as possible to physical culture and winter sports.

    This year the Winter Sports Day was dedicated to the 4th anniversary of the XXII Olympic Games in Sochi. In the framework of this festival on 10 and 11 February master classes with Russian Olympians and workshops with Olympic champions will be held all around the country. In addition, all those eager will have chance to receive an autograph of their favorite athletes and make photos. Winners and participants of various competitions will receive diplomas of the ROC, prizes and souvenirs.

    On 10 February in Moscow, at the VDNKh, at the country’s main skating rink the Moscow Lightnings skating festival is to be held. Its participants will have chance to take part in the great flashmob to support our athletes #RussiaZasport.

    Anyone who will take part in the sprint race at the VDNKh skating rink, can feel like a real speed skater. All those willing to participate will be split into several age groups: children under 8, kids 9-13, juniors 14-19, grown-ups 20-39 and masters over 40. Sprint races will be held from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00. Winners will receive prizes and all participants will get memorable souvenirs.

    Legendary speed skaters such as Olympic champion, Head of the Moscow City Department for the Physical Culture and Sport Nikolay Gulyaev, other celebrated Olympians, movie stars and showmen took part in the event along with young speed skaters. The ROC President Alexander Zhukov also plans to take part in the event.

    The unusual duel race of the rising stars will be the main event of the festival. Young athletes from Moscow sports schools will race around the Fountain of the Friendship of Peoples. On that day organizers will stage competitions, performances of musical bands.

    They will pay special attention to the athletes performing at the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

    A great flashmob #RussiaZasport in support of our athletes will start at 14:30 at the VDNKh skating rink. During the day everybody can record and send their video wishes to each athlete.

    The Alisher Usmanov’s charity fund “Art, Science and Sport”, which devotes much attention to mass sports projects, provides support to the ROC in the organization of the Winter Sports Day.

    Norilsk Nickel is the world’s largest producer of non-ferrous metals. The company has long been supporting Russian sport. It is the General partner of the ROC. Norilsk Nickel’s social policy includes support high performance sport and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.

    Charity Fund “Art, science and sport”

    Charity Fund “Art, science and sport” founded by the Russian entrepreneur and philanthropist Alisher Usmanov to provide assistance in the organization of socially significant events in the field of art, culture and sports, as well as the implementation of scientific-educational and social projects on the territory of the Russian Federation.

    A. B.
