Aslanbek Khushtov: “I love to communicate with children”
On Sunday, after Irina Karavayeva, Olympic champion in Trampoline, Aslanbek Khushtov, 2008 Beijing Games champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, visited the Russian Children’s Center Orlyonok within the framework of the Olympic Patrol Program organized by the Russian Olympic Committee.
Three-time European champion, two-time World Championships bronze medalist and a World Cup winner had a pleasant walk along the promenade, visited the nearest tourist attractions. Then he had a meeting with the children from the Solnechniy camp, during which he willingly told about his way to success and what he was aspiring to, about the need to respect the opponent on the wrestling mat, about the importance of sport in the life of every person. The Olympic champion promised to visit the famous library of Orlyonok camp, called “Pharmacy for the soul.” The library got its name thanks to the diverse book fund. There are about 60,000 copies of books to suit even the most demanding tastes: classic, adventure and fantasy, historical literature, war-time memoirs and poetry, foreign literature and new domestic prose for children and youth, reference literature and rare editions. Alsnabek promised the children to visit the library.
Olympic Patrol Program is extremely important – said the athlete. – It is necessary to communicate with children. When I came into the sport I did not realize what fight was all about, what elite sport and the Olympic Games was all about… but I understood it by the time I was 18. If, thanks to the Olympic patrol program the children will communicate with celebrities, athletes, champions and Olympians, they will understand much earlier what to strive for in life and where to go.
Each person should have a purpose in life. After talking with outstanding athletes, children will understand how to live their lives and they will also understand that sport is an important component of any person’s life. It’s necessary to maintain a healthy athletic lifestyle. In my opinion the Olympic Patrol is an excellent required program. It’s good for children, for the younger generation, and for the society. When I was invited to participate in it, I gladly agreed. I love to communicate with children.”
Olympic Patrol is a large-scale sports and educational program of the Russian Olympic Committee, whose purpose is to tell the children and teen-agers about the Olympic movement, to introduce them to Russian Olympic athletes and to remind them once again about the benefits of sports and the importance of active lifestyle.
The purpose of the program is to put a spark of the Olympic fire into every child’s heart, to inspire them to success and to instill the desire to win.
