Anton SHIPULIN: “I am proud of the confidence my fans have placed in me”

Anton SHIPULIN and Olga Vilukhina were recognized the best Russian Biathletes as of year-end 2014. The winners were determined by the fans vote on the official website of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU).

According to the Press Service of the organization, Sochi Olympic champion in the relay Anton SHIPULIN scored 90.1

Anton SHIPULIN:

“To be honest, I never expected that I would be chosen. Of course, I am very pleased that my fans have voted for me and that I have been given the proud title of the best biathlete of the year. I will try to continue to prove my worth. In truth, I do not consider myself Russian strongest biathlete. In our team there are guys who are no less worthy of that status.

Olga Vilukhina, who has received a silver medal in the sprint and in the relay in Sochi, gained 53.8% of the vot, ahead of Olga Zaitseva (17.4%) and Olga Podchufarova (15.3%).

The main event of the year, according to fans, is the men’s team victory in the relay at the Sochi Olympic Games, and the Men’s Mass Start which took place in December at the World Cup in Poklyuka was named the best race. It is symbolic that it was Shipulin who celebrated the victory in that race.

Now Anton is in Ruhpolding, Germany together with the team, where today the next calendar World Cup starts.

“Training is going well, the weather here is more or less stable. We will, as usual, try our best. The spirit in the team is very high. I hope it will bring us a decent result, “- said Shipulin in his interview to the ROC Information Service.
