Sergey Shishkarev was nominated as President of the Handball Federation of Russia

On Thursday, 26 February, a meeting of the Handball Federation of Russia Executive Committee was held at the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). Members of the Executive Committee headed by Vladimir Nelyubin, who is stepping down from his position as President  of the Handball Federation of Russia, decided to schedule an Extraordinary Conference of the Handball Federation of Russia for 7 April 2015. The elections of the new head of the Handball Federation of Russia and making amendments to the Statutes of the organization will be the main items on the agenda of the Conference.

It is to be recalled that  Vladimir Nelyubin has decided to decided to leave his post due to unsatisfactory results of the Russian men’s and women’s teams presented at the European Championships and the World Championships respectively (14th and 19th places). Sergey Shishkarev, the founder and President of Delo Group, First Deputy Chairman of the Marine Board under the Government of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Juridical Sciences and a deputy to the State Duma of the Russian Federation (3rd-5th convocation), became the first candidate for the position of President of the Handball Federation of Russia. He was nominated by Dmitry Rogozin, the Chairman of the Handball Federation of Russia Advisory Committee.

In addition, the Executive Committee members decided to reduce the number of the Russian Superleague playoff series matches from three to two victories. This was done due to the preparation of the Russian women’s national team for a very important match with the German team for a place in the pre-Olympic World Championships to be held in Denmark at the beginning of June.
