The general meeting of delegates of the All-Russian Association of Summer Olympic Sports (ARASOS) was held today in the Russian Olympic Committee, where elections of the new president and the Executive committee of the organization took place.
32 representatives of summer sports federations participated in the meeting. In total, 35 all-Russian sports federations (ARSF) plus the Russian Olympic Committee are members of ARASOS.
In the opening speech, the ROC president Stanislav Pozdnyakov noted accomplishments of the previous head of ARASOS Vladimir Lisin in developing summer sports in Russia and success of our athletes at large international competitions, and also drew attention to the need of consolidation of efforts to solve tasks and challenges facing the Olympic Movement.
When introducing the president of the Federation of artistic gymnastics of Russia and First vice president of the International Federation of Gymnastics Vasily Titov, who was the only candidate for the position of the head of ARASOS, Stanislav Pozdnyakov specifically noted his huge authority at the international level, managerial talent and regular high achievements of Russian gymnasts.
The ROC president paid special attention to anti-doping matters.
— I would like to highlight it once again: information that participation of our Olympic team at the Games-2020 in Tokyo is doubtful because of possible sanctions is not true. The Russian Olympic Committee has already incurred rather serious punishment before the Games in Pyeongchang, and today neither the IOC nor WADA has questions to the ROC. We have turned that unpleasant page, declared Stanislav Pozdnyakov.
Welcoming the decision of the interdepartmental commission on organization and holding international sports competitions in the territory of the Russian Federation to approve the application of Kazan to hold the III European games – 2023, the head of ROC noted that given that in many sports these competitions would be selection to the summer Olympic Games-2024 in Paris, they should be taken seriously, especially at the preparation stage.
Then the delegates of ARASOS started voting. Following the results, Vasily Titov was unanimously elected the new president of the All-Russian Association of summer Olympic sports. Moreover, heads of five other federations, Vyacheslav Smagin (softball), Maxim Agapitov (weightlifting), Stanislav Shevchenko (volleyball), Vyacheslav Ekimov (cycling) and Nikolay Makarov (trampolining) were elected members of the Executive committee of ARASOS.
Stanislav Pozdnyakov congratulated all the new members of ARASOS on election and wished colleagues success in their joint work.
