International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) to introduce cameras

Potential winners at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow were denied gold medals by judging errors. Disputes have also occurred at the recent Asian Games.

According to insidethegames.com, the International Weightlifting Federation will use three cameras, positioned to give views from the judges’ line of sight, and when video evidence is needed, it will be used quickly.

Video technology will be used from next year and will debut at the Youth World Championships in Lima, Peru, in April 2015.

This practice was used during the Football World Cup in Brazil in order to determine whether the ball has crossed the goal-line.

Among other changes in the IWF the following may be noted: the new logo Federation was approved, and it was decided to allocate the amount equal to one fifth of the budget of the Federation to the fight against doping.
