Tokyo’s Olympic Stadium will be built without a retractable roof

The main Tokyo’s 2020 stadium in will not be equipped with a retractable roof and a part of the seats at the 80,000-capacity stadium will be temporary. Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee has made such a decision in order to cut costs.

Japan’s intention to reduce the costs of the XXXII Summer Olympics became known in November last year. Then the organizers revised their plans to build new facilities. In February 2015, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has allowed to change the three competition venues. Now, as reported by AP, with reference to Hakubun Shimomura, Japan’s Sports Minister, it is decided to optimize the design of the Olympic Stadium.

The new arena is to be put into operation by the Rugby World Cup to be held in Tokyo in 2019. The XXXII Summer Olympic Games will be held in the capital of Japan from July 24 to August 9, 2020.
