- The Olympic Assembly is our main official event, - with these words Stanislav Pozdnyakov began his speech to the media representatives. - Today it was attended by 254 delegates representing summer and winter Olympic sports federations, heads of regional Olympic councils, as well as Olympic champions, honored coaches, and other specialists.
The main outcome of the Olympic Assembly was the approval of the Preparation Program for athletes who are candidates for the Russian Olympic Team for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The document, which we have been preparing and developing for a long time, was supported by all representatives of the winter federations who spoke in the debates, and was also approved by the Ministry of Sports, with which the ROC will soon sign an agreement on the implementation of this program.
Another important issue discussed today concerns amendments to the Charter of the Russian Olympic Committee. We increased the number of Executive Committee members by four people. Thus, there are more people in the ROC governing body ready to work for the benefit of Russian sport and the Olympic movement, and this is heartening. In addition, issues regarding the appointment of a new auditor and membership in the Russian Olympic Committee were considered today.
- Will nearly 10 billion rubles, which are expected to be spent in the upcoming Olympic quadrennium, be enough to fund all ROC programs and projects?- This amount is quite sufficient to fulfill all obligations within our statutory activities, which include high-performance sports programs, mass sports, Olympic education, and other projects.
- What additional sources of income does the Russian Olympic Committee have?
- We have a special marketing program to attract sponsors and partners. It is transparent and clearly structured; it can be found on the official ROC website. The marketing department is searching for potential partners, and if any appear, all existing programs will be implemented taking into account the additional opportunities.
- Is there a danger that at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo the Russian national team will again not compete in full?
- The Russian Olympic Committee, together with RUSADA, is conducting extensive work to change the anti-doping culture among our athletes, including those who are just starting their careers. I am confident that through joint efforts we will be able to change the situation for the better.
