Best sports journalists of the country were awarded by the ROC

On July 2nd, when World Sports Journalists Day is celebrated, a solemn ceremony of awarding best representatives of national sports media who took part  in covering the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi was held in the Russian Newspaper Media Center in Moscow. Sixty five winners (35 – representing federal media, and 30 —representing regional media) were decided by the ROC Press Commission.

In his opening speech, President of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov congratulated all the participants on their professional holiday.

“The ROC has never honored national sports journalists with special awards before – he said. – But 2014 is a special year for our country. This year the first Russian Olympic Winter Games were held, which became an outstanding event in our history, in large part with the help of sports journalists. On behalf of the ROC and of the entire sports community I would like to express gratitude to you for the coverage of the Sochi Olympics. You provided an opportunity not only to cheer for our athletes during the competition, but also to feel the unique atmosphere of the Sochi Olympic Games, you presented the Olympic capital to the whole world. You showed Russia, you showed Sochi – the city, which foreigners knew nothing about seven years ago. So this year we decided to recognize the best sports journalists with ROC awards.”
