Two Olympic flames in Rio

According to ATR news website, Rio de Janeiro Olympic organizers are considering two Olympic flames burning simultaneously at two different venues.

The current plan is for the Olympic cauldron to burn at the legendary Maracana stadium, where the opening and closing ceremonies will be held. But officials are now suggesting another flame could be lit at the Nilton Santos stadium where the   athletics events will take place.

“There has to be a flame at the Maracana because it will be lit there,” – Leonardo Caetano, the director of ceremonies for Rio2016, said. – But it has been proposed to lit one more flame at another stadium. However, nothing has been decided yet.”

According to ATR news website, IOC officials are  not opposed to such initiatives.
