Alexander Zhukov: The ROC will continue implementing a sports movement support program
The Olympic Games have reached the half way stage. Increasingly, the question arises as to what will happen after their conclusion. The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has promised that funding of the sports development programs will not stop after the end of the Games.
“I can say that government will continue its support – said the head of the ROC Alexander Zhukov. – The budget is adopted for three years, it has already been announced, and the funds for the development of physical culture and sports, allocated under the federal program, will not be reduced. I can only say that the Russian Olympic Committee will continue implementing its support programs”.
According to Alexander Zhukov, contrary to pessimistic forecasts, a project of sports development and healthy lifestyle promotion sets long term goals.
“We are preparing for the Games in Rio de Janeiro, because 2016 is not far off . So it’s not true that after the Olympic Games in Sochi the programs will not continue . We will continue to support elite sport, and more importantly, soon after the Olympic Games a meeting of the Presidential Council on Physical Culture and Sports will take place. At this meeting the questions of mass and children’s sports will be discussed, and very serious decisions will be taken”, – said Alexander Zhukov.
