Alexander Zhukov: Under the leadership of Elena Isinbayeva RUSADA will wage a head-on struggle against doping in Russia

President of the ROC commented on  Elena Isinbayeva’s election as the Head of the  the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) Supervisory Board.

– The first meeting of the new RUSADA Supervisory Board is a very important step towards  restoration of the Russian anti-doping system, said Alexander Zhukov. – I think, that its representatives made an absolutely correct decision by choosing Elena Isinbayeva as the Chairman. She has an impeccable reputation as a great athlete, who has never taken medication that falls under the Prohibited List. I am sure, that under her leadership RUSADA will wage a head-on struggle against doping in Russia.

I would like to note, that members of the RUSADA Supervisory Board were elected in close cooperation with the World Anti-Doping Agency. All WADA’s recommendations were taken into account, when setting up the executive office of the Supervisory Board. It particularly concerns  independent members of the Supervisory Board, such, for example, Sergei Ryazansky, cosmonaut who lit the Olympic torch in space before the Sochi Olympic Games.

In the nearest future, the RUSADA Supervisory Board will decide on the candidacy of the general director of the organization. It  will  probably happen in March. After that WADA will make a decision on reinstatement of the RUSADA membership in the International Anti-Doping Agency. Possibly, it will happen in May. In any case, we are doing everything to completely restore the work of the Russian anti-doping system  its as soon as possible. As the resources of RUSADA and the anti-doping laboratory is designed to handle not less than 20 thousand doping tests per year. For comparison, in 2016 the British Anti-Doping Agency, temporarily replacing RUSADA, took only about 3 thousand samples in Russia.
