Alexander Zhukov is sure about the alpine skiing progress
Alpine Skiing is one of the few disciplines in which Russian athletes were not likely to contend for medals at the 2014 Olympics. In our country modern tracks were built for the Sochi Games. Alexander Zhukov expressed confidence that the region will eventually become the ski resort that will influence the development of alpine skiing.
“You can hire various coaches, but it’s impossible to raise alpine skiers if there is no base, and in our country there was no base, since the famous resorts such as Bakuriani, Medea remained outside Russia – said the President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Alexander Zhukov. – Abroad thousands and thousands of children start training at the age of three. Mass sport, good tracks, large number of coaches – all these factors deliver the results. Now the tracks are built and good athletes will soon appear, I am sure”.
“I am sure it will be a popular ski resort. We are planning to create many schools under the mountain. Certainly on the top there will also be some. This is what major competitions are for – to create new interests”, – said Zhukov.
