Alexander Zhukov: Bobsled gold is a momentous victory
The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Alexander Zhukov believes that Russian bobsleigh duo of Alexander Zubkov and Alexey Voevoda won a historical victory for Russia and destroyed the myth about ill luck pursuing the Olympic flag-bearers.
Russia won its fifth gold medal of the Sochi Games with the victory of the bobsleigh duo of Alexander Zubkov and Alexey Voevoda. During the opening ceremony of the 2014 Games Zubkov was the one who carried the Russian flag.
“It’s a truly historical victory and most importantly, it’s an absolutely deserved victory. We have been waiting for it for so many years. The most important thing is that we have chosen the right flag-bearer. Everyone was worried because the flag-bearers usually perform badly, taking into account past experience. However, when people are sure of themselves and strong, nothing will prevent them from winning. It was just brilliant, they led throughout the competition’s four runs. Good job, guys”,- said the President of the ROC after watching the Russians’ performance.
Alexander Zhukov said that he had confidence in Russian bobsleigh racers. “I had confidence after the first day and today they only proved their leadership”, – said the head of the ROC.
According to Alexander Zhukov, Russian athletes have all chances for the same success in four-man bobsleigh as well. “Four-man and women’s bobsleigh events are yet to come. We are counting on them as well”, – concluded Zhukov.
