Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky to Alexander Zhukov, President of Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). On Monday, March 24, Vladimir Putin bestows state awards on the organizers of the Sochi Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, coaches and managers of heads federations.

“XXII Olympic and XI Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi have already become a history – a very positive history which united and inspired so many people and united and inspired us all. It’s pleasant to realize that this festival of sport and good human communication presented to the whole world by our country – Russia. Tens of thousands of people, who were preparing the Olympic and Paralympic Games for nearly seven years, made a huge contribution to this. And today we honor those whose effort, energy and talent helped our common dream come true and made the Olympic project so bright and really unique. The high state awards are bestowed on Olympic infrastructure constructors and Games organizers, heads of sports federations and representatives of the media. My dear friends! I want to congratulate all of you. Thank you for the great contribution to the promotion of the values and ideals of the Olympic movement”, – the official Kremlin website quoted Putin’s words.

According to Alexander Zhukov, a very large number of people contributed to preparation for and staging of the Olympic Winter Games. “Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich! It’s true that a lot of people worked hard and gave away their hearts, preparing for these Olympic Games. And maybe that’s why they have become the best in history. They brought great happiness to the athletes and fans. They probably made millions of Russians proud of their country. But I think that things would have turned out differently, if not the will and the contribution of one person. On behalf of the Russian Olympic Committee and on behalf of the whole Olympic Movement I would like to thank you for your will and your confidence throughout these seven years, for these Olympic Games and for the great Olympic legacy. Thank you very much”, – said the president of the ROC.
