Alexander Zhukov is the only candidate for the ROC presidential poll

A meeting of the Commission on the preparations for the elections to the governing bodies was held on Thursday, May 15, at the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). The meeting was led by its chairman – Honorary Vice President, Advisor to the President on the preparations for the Olympic Games Vladimir Vasin.

Commission members heard and took note of the report of the Commission Secretary Valeriy Kuvaev on the progress of nominating candidates for the elections to the governing and supervisory bodies of the ROC. Amongst others, he said that as of 18:00 MSK, May 14, 2014 (the deadline for receipt of nominations) one candidate has been nominated – the incumbent President of the ROC, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of Russia, member of the International Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov. His candidature was put forward by 116 members of the  ROC (29 all-Russian sports federations, 69 regional Olympic departments, 12 Olympic Academies and  6 fitness and sports associations).

“It’s for the first time in the recent history of the Russian Olympic Committee that such situation happens – noted the chairman of the commission Vladimir Vasin. – It’s safe to say that all Russian sports unanimous support of our current President.”

In addition, members of the Commission approved the draft Regulation on the method of ROC leadership elections and ROC Executive committee and audit committee members elections, which will now be submitted for approval to the ROC Olympic assebly.
