Yelena Isinbayeva is recognized as Athlete of the Year according to Sport Journalists of Russia
World champion in pole vault Yelena Isinbayeva is recognized as athlete of the year 2013 according to the Federation of Sport Journalists of Russia (FSJR). Solemn Silver Doe Award ceremony was held on Wednesday, December 18, at the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). Traditionally, the national journalists name the best athletes of the past year , but this time there was an innovation – the best athlete and the best coach of the year were announced.
Olympic champion, multiple world record holder , three-time world champion Yelena Isinbayeva was the first to receive the best athlete of Russia award. This “Silver Doe” is not the first in her collection of numerous trophies, but it will be the first in the category “Sportswoman of the Year”. FSJR has decided to abandon the traditional announcement of the top ten Russian athletes in alphabetical order due to the fact that almost in all questionnaires that were sent to all publishers from all corners of Russia, the name of our pole vaulter was mentioned first.
Another departure from the usual practice was determining the best coach. First, Russia’s head beach soccer coach Mikhail Likhachev was leading, but at the finish line the Head coach of the Russian national football team, Italian Fabio Capello, took the lead. As a result, the FSJR decided to give two “Silver Does” — one to Likhachev and another one to Capello.
In the list of winners of the year 2013 also included: Natalia Bolshakova (rowing , Paralympic sport), Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov (figure skating ), Khadzhimurat Gatsalov ( freestyle wrestling ), Yuliya Efimova (swimming) , Aliya Mustafina (gymnastics ), Dmitry Musersky (volleyball ), Svetlana Romashina ( synchronized swimming ), Svetlana Shkolina (athletics ), Denis Yuskov ( speed skating ) . The Strongest team Nomination was won by the Russian national team in volleyball.
