The Athletes’ Commission will develop relations with all-Russian sports federations
The meeting, chaired by a three-time Olympic champion Olga Brusnikina, was attended by multiple Olympic champions Alexander Popov, Yelena Isinbayeva and Elena Zamolodchikova, as well as Olympic champion Tagir Khaibulaev and a five-time Paralympic champion Andrey Strokin.
The Commission Chairman summed up the results of 2013. In particular, she spoke about participating in the activities of the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation related to the expansion of social guarantees for the winners and medalists of various championships , about organizing information and other sort of events and about the establishment of the Department of the Athletes’ Social Adaptation in the Russian Olympic Committee.
– Next year all existing areas of activities will remain. However, we should intensify our efforts to create the athletes’ commissions in each of the existing all-Russian Olympic and Winter Olympic sports federations and to establish direct contact with them, – said Olga Brusnikina talking about the plans for 2014.
The plan for next year also includes the events organized in cooperation with the regional authorities. The representatives of the Commission plan to take part in the work of the International and the European Olympic Committees and in the work of an expert group of the Russian Olympians’ Support Fund and of the Sports Law Commission of the Association of Lawyers of Russia.
Besides that, the cooperation with the Russian Paralympic Committee and the Russian Anti-Doping Agency “RUSADA” will be continued. Veronica Loginova, a representative of the Agency, was invited to the meeting. She delivered a report on the new methods of preventing the use of doping and about the changes to the anti-doping legislation.
The First Pro-Rector of the Moscow University for Industry and Finance “Synergy” and the Head of Sports Management Department, Doctor of Economics Vladimir Lednyov proposed the Commission to form proposals for quotas for the athletes who want to study at the university and to get a degree in Sports Management. Upon the recommendation of the ROC Athletes’ Commission, the University is ready to give them free education and award several grants for this purpose.
According to the results of the meeting , the ROC Athletes’ Commission approved the current results of work and confirmed the proposed plan for 2014.
