Maria Sharapova became the winner of a major tournament in China
Russia’s Maria Sharapova won the China Open in Beijing, the prize money of which exceeds $5 million.
Russia’s Maria Sharapova won the China Open with a thrilling 6-4 2-6 6-3 victory over Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic) in the final in Beijing.
“It was a bit of an up-and-down match – maybe not the best out of the tournament, But it’s never easy playing against Petra. I am glad that I managed to finish the match in my favor,” – the official website of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) quotes the words of Maria Sharapova.
For our tennis player this victory at the WTA tournament became 33rd in her career. Sharapova claimed her fourth title of the year, after winning in Stuttgart, Madrid and Paris.
After winning the tournament in China, Maria Sharapova will move from number four up to number two in the WTA world ranking, 467 points behind Serena Williams (USA).
