Alexander Yaryomenko: “It’s much nicer to play surrounded by supporters”
Olympic Beach Volleyball qualifying tournament for the right to perform at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, will be held in Russia. According to the official website of the International Volleyball Federation the FIVB Continental Cup will either be held in Moscow or in Sochi. The tournament, to be held from 5 to 10 July 2016, last four Olympic quota places will be contested (2 men’s and 2 women’s). The exact location of the tournament will be announced in late October.
In his interview with the ROC Information Service Alexander Yaryomenko, Secretary General of the Russian Volleyball Federation, spoke about the importance of the decision adopted by the International Volleyball Federation.
“In 2012 we have already hosted the Beach Volleyball Continental Cup, and at that very tournament, our men’s and women’s team won quota places for the London Olympics. We hope that this tournament will be no less successful for us.
Of course, it’s much nicer to play at home feeling the support of your fans. Based on the results of this tournament Olympic quota will be granted to a country and not to a particular pair, and, that is, the are not personalized here. The Beach Volleyball Continental Cup is a last chance to qualify for the Olympic Games. Each of the four continents will receive one quota place. The chances of our men’s and women’s teams are very good,” – concluded the Secretary General of the Russian Volleyball Federation Alexander Yaryomenko.
