Denis Yuskov, Vice-champion of the World Allround Speed Skating Championships
Denis Yuskov became silver medalist of the World Allround Speed Skating Championships. At the Championships in Calgary (Canada) Russian athlete was among the 3 best in three of the four distances, and in the final classification he (146.934) took second place to the renowned Dutchman Sven Kramer (146.509). Third place went to Sverre Pedersen of Norway (147.182).
Interestingly, that in the days prior to the start of the World championships Denis Yuskov had a bad fall at the training and hurt his leg. Nevertheless even with a little injury and after having suffered a mild cold Russian athlete has won his best distance – 1,500 meters, and also updated his personal record in 500 and 10,000 meters, and became second in the overall standings after 22-year-old Sven Kramer, three-times Olympic champion.
This season Yuskov has amassed a complete collection of medals: gold of the World Championships in particular distances, silver of the World Allround Speed Skating Championships and bronze of the similar European Championships.
It is to be recalled that at the World Sprint Speed Skating Championships, held in Astana (Kazakhstan), Russian athletes also had a successful performance. Pavel Kulizhnikov took first place, and Alexey Esin – third.
