The President of the Federation of Sports Journalists of Russia was elected

In the Olympic training center «Planernaya» a Report-and-election Conference of the Federation of Sports Journalists of Russia (FSJR) was held. The representatives of about forty regions of our country gathered in Moscow. Alexander Gorbenko, Deputy Moscow mayor, and  Gianni Merlo, the President of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS)  addressed the delegates with the salutatory telegrams. Viktor Gusev, a famous sports commentator, read them out to an ovation.

The conference was attended by the guests of honor: Marat Bariev,  the Russian Olympic Committee Executive Director; Valentin Balakhnichev, Head of the Russian Track and Field Athletics Federation; Valentin Piseev, General Director of the Figure Skating Federation of Russia; and Alexander Petrov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Federation of Sports Journalists of Russia, well-known sports benefactor.

Marat Bariev and the leaders of the FSJR gave the  journalists celebrating jubilees memorable diplomas and souvenirs. Anatoly Tchaikovsky is celebrating his 80 anniversary; Vladimir Pisarevsky has turned 75; Vladimir Salivon and Alexander Ukhov have turned 60. Upon the recommendation of the FSJR Executive Committee Alexander Ukhov was awarded the highest sign of the ROC «For merits in development of the Olympic Movement in Russia».

In his speech Marat Bariev, the ROC Executive Director, noted that «The Federation has done much, but even more needs to be done in the next four years. Ahead are London 2012 Olympic Games and Sochi 2014, preparations for the  International Forum «Russia – sportspower», which will be held in 2011 in Saransk and staging of the Universiade-2013. Creation of the image of the Russian Olympian, the story about the preparation for the Games, skillful coverage of the Games – it all depends on the skills of the media representatives. More attention should be paid to the work with the regions».

At the meeting it was announced that a solemn ceremony of giving the journalist prize «Silver Doe» to the best sportsmen of the country by the end of last year, will be held on 20 April 2011 in the Russian Olympic Committee. Note that this ceremony is among the events devoted to 100-anniversary of the ROC.

At the conference a minute of silence was announced in honor of those who have  passed away. Yuri Koveshnikov, a member of the FSJR Executive Committee, has also died prematurely.

After the discussions and formal speeches the participants began to vote for the new governing body of the Federation. Nikolai Dolgopolov, Deputy Chief Editor of the «Rossiyskaya Gazeta», Vice-President of AIPS, was re-elected the President of the FSJR unanimously.

At the Report-and-election Conference the new body of the FSJR Executive Committee was approved. It includes 27 people.
