100 days to go until the Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang
On 1 November, 100 days before the opening ceremony of the XXIII Winter Games in 2018 the Olympic flame arrived in South Korea. At the solemn ceremony at the Incheon International Airport, the flame was carried by Olympic figure skating gold medallist Yuna Kim and the Republic of Korea’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Do Jong-hwan by Olympic champion figure skater Kim Yu-na and the Minister of sport of South Korea That Jung-hwan.
Lee Hee-beom, the President of the PyeongChang Organising Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games said that this event is a very important and proud symbol of our work and passion in bringing one of the most exciting winter sporting events ever to our country.
Over the next 100 days 7,500 torchbearers who will carry the Olympic flame through 17 cities and provinces. and on many different modes of transport that have been chosen to represent the country’s past, present and future. The total length its journey will be 2,018 km. The honour of being the first torchbearer of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Torch Relay fell to 13-year-old figure skating prodigy You Young.
