Russian Paralympic Committee’s rights conditionally reinstated

8 February

The International Paralympic Committee announced today the reinstatement of the RPC’s membership in this organisation — for the time being conditionally, until 15 March 2019, when this decision will officially take effect. Also, the Russian Paralympic Committee was presented with a number of requirements that must be strictly followed up to December 2022 to preserve its status as an IPC member.

The Novogorsk Training Centre hosted today a ceremony of seeing off the Russian Olympic team for the 14th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Before the departure, the young athletes were addressed by ROC President Stanislav Pozdnyakov; ROC Secretary General, five-time synchronised swimming Olympic champion Anastasia Davydova; and RUSADA Director General Yury Ganus.

Vasily Titov elected as the new president of ARASOS

The general meeting of delegates of the All-Russian Association of Summer Olympic Sports (ARASOS) was held today in the Russian Olympic Committee, where elections of the new president and the Executive committee of the organization took place.

On February 9, the XIV European Youth Olympic Festival starts in Sarajevo. Athletes from 46 countries aged 14–18 will compete for medals in eight different types of sports, including snowboarding.

Yevgeny Kafelnikov has been inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport. He became the second Russian tennis player after Marat Safin to be awarded this honour.

The President of the Russian Olympic Committee Stanislav Pozdnyakov participated in a meeting of the interdepartmental commission on organization and holding in the territory of the Russian Federation of international sports competitions, approval of promising applications of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation on development of physical culture and sport under the chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets.

On January 19, Sergei Pavlov, the former head of the Committee for Physical Education and Sports at the USSR Council of Ministers and President of the USSR Olympic Committee, would have turned 90. Pavlov had a great friendship with honorary ROC President, Vitaly Smirnov, who had a chance to work with all the leaders of Soviet sport of the postwar period. He has very fond memories of Sergei Pavlov.
