The Sport Leaders Awards 2019 ceremony took place in Moscow awarding and honoring the best projects in the field of sports. The Russian Olympic Committee won in the nomination “Our team is the entire country!” for its project – House of Fans of Team Russia. The House of Fans was once again successfully organized at the recent 2nd European Games in Minsk.

Stanislav Pozdnyakov received an antique sabre as a gift for his commitment to Fair Play principles.

During the European Fencing Championship in Düsseldorf, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee and the European Fencing Confederation, four-time Olympic champion, received an honorary award from the International Fair Play Committee. Holding the antique saber in his hands, the President of the ROC made a fencing salute to the organisers and spectators gathered in the stands.

The President of the Russian Olympic Committee congratulated Russian figure skaters Alina Zagitova and Evgenia Medvedeva on their successful performance at the World Championships in Saitama, Japan. Today, Alina Zagitova, a student of Eteri Tutberidze, won the free skate program and for the first time in her career became a World champion! Evgenia Medvedeva was fourth, but after a short program she earned third place.

Today the legendary Soviet athlete, Lydia Skoblikova, the only six-time Olympic champion in the history of speed skating and the absolute champion of the 1964 Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck, is celebrating her anniversary. The renowned speed skater received warm birthday wishes on her special day from ROC President Stanislav Pozdnyakov.

ROC President Stanislav Pozdnyakov and IOC member Shamil Tarpishchev took part in the ceremony to award the gold medal of the XXIX Summer Olympic Games 2008 to Russian freestyle wrestler Bakhtiyar Akhmedov. The medal finally came to the wrestler following a procedure initiated by IOC to reallocate the medals of the 2008 Olympic Games.

Three-time Olympic champion Vladislav Tretyak, daughter of the Olympic champion Tatyana Tarasova, members of the Government of the Russian Federation, representatives of ROC and hockey legends Alexander Yakushev, Boris Mikhailov and Boris Mayorov took part in the ceremony.
