The ROC president Alexander Zhukov summed up the results of the previous days
Today , February 11, Russian speedskater Olga Fatkulina won a silver medal in women’s 500 meters at the Olympic Games in Sochi. Lee Sang-hwa of South Korea won Olympic gold. She was 0.36 seconds ahead of it Fatkulina after two races. Margot Boer of the Netherlands won the bronze (0.78).
” It’s just wonderful – said the head of the ROC Alexander Zhukov after congratulating Olga. – As a matter of fact, it is not her favorite distance, she is the world champion in 1,000 meters, so let’s hope that this is not her last medal”.
However, on the same day Sergei Ustyugov finished fifth after a fall in thecross country sprint. Ola Vigen Hatterstad of Norway became Olympic sprint champion. Swedish skiers Teodor Peterson and Emil Jonsson will take home silver and bronze.
Two skiers fell during the race. Sergei Ustyugov slammed into one of them, which eventually led him to such a result.
“It’s a pity , of course, we were hoping for medals , but it so happened that Ustiugov only reached the final, although he could compete for gold, but we can say that he was cut off from the gold medal” , – said Alexander Zhukov.
However when one door closes another opens. Today the bronze medalist in mogul Alexander Smyshlyaev was honored solemnly in the Russian Olympic Team Fans House. The ROC president presented him gifts from the Russian Olympic Committee and commented on the event:
“Generally speaking, Smyshlyaev is a hero, because we haven’t received medals in Moguls for 20 years. It’s great that now we have such an athlete. Thanks to him this sport is becoming popular”.
“I like it that the fans are very supportive of the athletes, because some people believe that bronze medals are not so important, and here everybody can see and understand that it is a great achievement for the athlete”, – said Alexander Zhukov.
