  • The President of the ROC held a working meeting with the Head of the Russian Luge Federation Natalia Gart and discussed a wide range of issues, in particular, the preparation of Russian athletes for the 2020 World Cup in Sochi and the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

The President of the Russian Luge Federation also spoke about preparing lugers for the upcoming season and highlighted relevant topics on the international agenda.

    Stanislav Pozdnyakov:

    – As part of the cooperation agreement between the ROC and the Russian Luge Federation signed in February 2019, the Russian Olympic Committee provides the necessary support to the Luge Federation. This includes equipment support for the national team and activities aimed at adapting Russian lugers to the climatic and geographical conditions of Beijing where the Winter Olympics will be held in 2022. In addition, next year Russia will host two major international tournaments in luge and naturbahn (natural track luge): the World Cup in Sochi and the European Championship in Moscow. The Russian Olympic Committee will assist the Russian Luge Federation in organizing and conducting these competitions at the highest level.

    Natalia Gart:

    – The meeting with the Head of the ROC was fruitful and productive. We discussed key points relevant to the Luge Federation. One of the main topics was the preparation for the Olympic Games in China. In the near future we will determine a list of issues that need to be resolved with assistance from the Russian Olympic Committee. We are talking about integrated research and development, as well as additional production of equipment and inventory.

We also focused on the preparations of the Russian Luge Federation for the upcoming sports season. We have to host two major tournaments in 2020 – the European championship (naturbahn) in Moscow and the first ever World Luge Championship in Sochi, which will be the only world championship in Russia next year. This is a unique chance to make luge in our country more popular and to attract the attention of spectators, fans and the media. We look forward to organizing it from a unique perspective, presenting not only a high-level sports tournament, but also a large-scale entertainment event highlighting the sports and cultural life of Sochi and the resorts of Krasnaya Polyana.
