  • The President of the ROC congratulated all sports and healthy lifestyle enthusiasts on Physical Culture Day, traditionally celebrated in Russia on the second Saturday of August.

    Stanislav Pozdnyakov:

    Dear friends!

Big victories are unthinkable without the development of mass sports in our country.

Future Olympic champions begin their journey to the top with PE classes at school and by participating in popular holidays such as Physical Culture Day, which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year!

The importance of physical culture for the development of society is difficult to overestimate. By boosting health, sport improves the body and mind, fosters courage and perseverance in achieving goals, and also toughens up a person’s will. It is no coincidence that “Healthy body – healthy mind and spirit!” has been the hallmark slogan for Physical Culture Day for many years. On this day, hundreds of thousands of people go in for sports across Russia, regardless of age and social status.

The Russian Olympic Committee always supports such sports events, since they serve as an excellent embodiment of Olympic values and ideals and contribute to creating a physically and spiritually healthy society, which is one of our top priorities.

Furthermore, Physical Culture Day unifies experienced and amateur sports enthusiasts, coaches, PE teachers and each person for whom sport is a social and moral guide in life. It is an excellent occasion for them to meet on a fine summer day and, most importantly, in one venue.

On behalf of the Russian Olympic Committee and from me personally, I congratulate all sports enthusiasts on the occasion of this wonderful holiday!
