  • President of the ROC commented on the agreement signed by the South and the North Korea about the participation of the two countries in the 2020 Olympic Games as one team and about the preparation of the joint application to host the 2032 Olympics.

    Stanislav Pozdnyakov:

“In my opinion the joint declaration of the DPRK and the Republic of Korea about the cooperative application to host the 2032 Olympic Games and establishing a joint team by the start of the Tokio 2020 is a bright and significant example of how sports values and Olympizm help make better progress even in the most complicated diplomatic and political issues. We all remember the tense situation before the PyeongChang Games. They even considered the possibility of cancellation of the competitions for security reasons. Now the parties are talking about rapprochement through sport. This would definitely contribute to lessening the tension between two countries. And it is a great benefit for the whole Olympic movement.”
