  • Today the ROC president held a working meeting with heads of International and All-Russian federations of sambo Vasily Shestakov and Sergey Eliseev. The parties discussed a wide range of questions, including the present status of sambo. It should be reminded that last year this discipline gained temporary recognition of the International Olympic Committee.

Heads of the World and Russian sambo told about interaction with the IOC and the Organizing Committees of summer Youth Olympic Games Dakar-2022 (Senegal) and the Games Paris-2024 (France) concerning strategic partnership and participation of sambo athletes in complex competitions under the auspices of the IOC.

Moreover, Sergey Eliseev told about training of the Russian national team for the II European games in Minsk and tasks for our team.

In its turn, the ROC president supported efforts of heads of FIAS and ARSF on integration of sambo into the Olympic family, and also reminded that Kazan applied for holding the next European games which will take place in 2023, and in case of victory of the Russian application our athletes will be able to expect strong support of fans. It is especially important, considering that in many sports this competition will be a qualification step to the Olympic Games-2024.

Vasily Shestakov reported that on February 15, within preparation for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of sambo, a meeting of the Organizing Committee under the chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Olga Golodets will take place. Stanislav Pozdnyakov, on his part, supported the idea of creation of the joint working group in ROC for the purpose of more effective implementation of the planned actions.

In the end, the parties discussed possibilities of integration of sambo into the sports program of large-scale international events (for example, economic forums like the WEF and SPIEF).
