  • The President of the Russian Olympic Committee congratulated all athletes and healthy lifestyle enthusiasts on the occasion of International Olympic Day!

    Stanislav Pozdnyakov:

    Dear friends!

Today, exactly one month before the start of the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo, the world sports community celebrates International Olympic Day, dedicated to the revival of the Olympic movement in its present form. This was the originally conceived ideology of this holiday. Now it has acquired a new meaning.

The world continues to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Many doubted that it would still be possible to hold the Olympic Games in Japan in view of these tough times. But the Olympics will take place. Thanks to the tremendous efforts of thousands of people, sport will once again play an important role in overcoming a global problem.

The main task of International Olympic Day is to unite people on all continents with the help of basic values such as unity, mutual understanding, respect and cooperation. Without these values, the progress of the entire world community is impossible. The holiday also reminds us once again that physical education, sport and a healthy lifestyle today are extremely important for each and everyone of us.

A vivid example would be athletes who traditionally take the most active part in the events dedicated to International Olympic Day, regardless of whether they are online or offline. Thanks to their energetic and creative approach, the younger generation understands that going in for sport is not only useful, but also interesting, exciting and prestigious. I am sure that this will be the case this time round as well.

On behalf of the Russian Olympic Committee, I would like to congratulate everyone on today’s wonderful holiday and wish you all good health, good spirits and success in all your endeavors!

Go in for sport and have a great time!
