He and his colleagues from the Sports department of Kazakhstan placed flowers at the Memorial and the steles dedicated to the Hero Cities, paying special tribute to Kyiv and Odesa.
“I congratulate all Defenders on this holiday and wish them good health! I send my best wishes for success to all the warriors fulfilling their duty to Russia, I wish you victory in the fight!” – Mikhail Degtyarev declared.
The Memorial of Glory in Almaty, celebrating the 30th anniversary milestone of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, became the place where the Russian delegation honored the fallen heroes with a heartfelt moment of silence.
In Kazakhstan, our shared history and the bravery of Soviet soldiers who fought against Nazism are deeply respected and valued.
Mikhail Degtyarev remembered the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin: “This year, the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, has been proclaimed the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland in Russia – for the pride of our unstoppable generation of winners, in honor of their heroism and sacrifice, we celebrate the monumental victory they achieved for the world, and in tribute to the heroes, who carry on their ancestors’ legacy in military service on the battlefield these days.”
In addition, the Minister of Sport and President of the Russian Olympic Committee visited the Ascension Cathedral in Almaty today – the tallest wooden Orthodox church in the world, built in 1907. It was here that Mikhail Degtyarev went to light candles for good health of our soldiers – the special military operation fighters and reflecting on the fallen heroes who served our country.
