The standout moment from the Tenth session of the Conference of Parties to the International Convention against Doping in Sport that concluded in Paris was Russia’s reinstatement to the Approval Committee of the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport, which serves as the primary government-to-government mechanism for anti-doping efforts. Following the outcome of the secret ballot, we will be reintegrated into the structure for the first time since 2022.
The Russian delegation in the French capital was led by the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and President of the Russian Olympic Committee Michael Degtyarev, and overall, representatives from over 140 countries gathered at the UNESCO Headquarters.
During the opening ceremony of the Session, the leader of Russian sports emphasized that Russia has made significant strides in developing its national anti-doping system over the past few years.
– Our country is committed to the goals of the UNESCO Convention and is actively working to ensure equal opportunities for all athletes. The fight against doping remains a top strategic priority and a crucial component of our national sports policy, said the chief of the Ministry of Sports and the Russian Olympic Committee.
Our delegation conducted a series of both open and closed meetings with our foreign colleagues in Paris, demonstrating its commitment to dialogue.
Michael Degtyarev engaged in discussions about anti-doping cooperation, as well as various educational and humanitarian projects with Marcellin Dally, Chief of Section for the Elimination of Doping in Sport, Olivier Niggli, Director General of the World Anti-Doping Agency, Angela Martins from the African Union Commission, and other fellow participants at the Paris forum.
At the conference, Michael Degtyarev announced the ruling of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) Appeals Tribunal, which deemed the IBSF Congress’s decision to ban Russian athletes from international competitions as unlawful.
We have achieved another significant victory in safeguarding the rights and interests of our athletes.
