In June 2022, the Russian Olympic Committee was unjustifiably denied the opportunity to participate in the EOC General Assembly, first in a face-to-face format and then via video link.
The ROC appealed against the EOC’s actions in the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, demanding that they be recognized as illegal and that our rights as a full member of the organization be guaranteed.
Accordingly, decisions on further steps on our part will be made following the CAS decision on the outcome of the July hearing.
However, the practice of the last two years shows that, unfortunately, we should not expect adequate, unbiased actions from the EOC. The issue of ending discrimination against Russian athletes is not on the agenda of the current General Assembly meeting.
In addition, the ROC has yet to receive an acceptable explanation or apology for its wrongful ineligibility for European Olympic Committees events held since February 2022.
In view of the above, there is no practical point in any interaction with the EOC at the moment.
These days, the ROC is holding a Forum of Olympic Councils with representation from all regions of the Russian Federation to discuss the development of domestic sport, including in light of unilateral and illegal restrictions from the “collective West.” Our priority is to restore the status quo and assist Russian athletes and sports federations who have suffered, including from the illegal actions of the EOC.
