Starting in 2026, scholarships for talented students at sports universities will see a significant increase: from RUB 11,000 to RUB 20,000 per month for undergraduates and from RUB 13,000 to RUB 30,000 for postgraduates. The decision announced by Michael Degtyarev, the Minister of Sports and President of the Russian Olympic Committee, was made public on Wednesday, February 4, during the opening of the 37th Olympic Scientific Session for Young Scientists and Students in Russia “Olympism, the Olympic Movement, the Olympic Games: History and Modernity,” at the Russian University of Sport «GTSOLIFK».
The Russian Olympic Committee scholarship is designed for students and postgraduates who effectively balance their academic pursuits with educational and research activities related to Olympic issues. It recognizes those who engage in Olympic education events and promote the values of the Olympic movement. Candidates with a direct involvement in studying, developing, or conducting scientific and practical research on the ROC projects and programs, comprising the regional level, are given priority.
“President of Russia Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin notes, “We all recognize the vital role of sports as a universal means to develop individuals’ physical, creative, and spiritual potential. We understand that only by working together can we tackle many of the modern world’s challenges.” The Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation and the ROC are increasingly focused on promoting sports awareness and education. Last year, the All-Russian Sports Dictation took place, and the Olympic Alphabet was published as part of the ambitious project A Great Country is a Sports Country. The VII Young Olympians International Forum was held in Vyborg. Each year, Olympic academies receive support, particularly in scientific research and publishing activities. This year, there will be a significant increase in Olympic scholarships for talented students and postgraduates at sports universities.” This was highlighted in the message from the ROC President to the participants of the scientific session, which was read at the ceremonial event by Roman Kramar, the ROC Director General.
The session at the Russian University of Sport «GTSOLIFK» will conclude on Thursday, February 5. On the first day, students showcased their research papers, while the second day will focus on presentations from young scientists, master’s students, postgraduate students, and lecturers. Afterward, the jury will announce the results and recognize the authors of the top works, who will receive special ROC awards.
