  • Delegates voted for 7 representatives of summer Olympic sports out of 10 candidates. Besides, Yelena Isinbayeva and Jonathan Guerreiro will continue their work in the AC as members of the IOC and EOC, as well as 2 representatives of winter sports whose powers will terminate after Beijing 2022. The President of the ROC has powers to appoint up to 5 more athletes to the Commission to maintain gender equality and balance of sports.

    The renewed composition of the Commission includes:

    Yuri Borzakovsky (28 votes), Olympic champion in athletics

    Sofia Velikaya (28 votes), two-time Olympic champion in fencing

    Ekaterina Gamova (26 votes), two-time Olympic silver medalist in volleyball

    Andrey Moiseev (25 votes), two-time Olympic champion in modern pentathlon

    Svetlana Romashina (21 votes), seven-time Olympic champion in synchronized swimming

    Stefania Elfutina (15 votes), Olympic bronze medalist in sailing

    and Anastasia Fesikova (15 votes), Olympic silver medalist in swimming.

    Ms. Elfutina and Ms. Fesikova will join the ROC Athletes’ Commission for the first time.

    Olympic judo champion Tagir Khaibulaev (13 votes) failed to be re-elected to the ROC AC. Rowing and canoeing representative Elena Prokhorova (11 votes) and World Championship bronze medalist in rowing Pavel Eigel (10 votes) also failed to win the required number of votes.

    Anastasia Fesikova, Olympic silver medalist in swimming:

    – I am grateful to everyone for their trust. For me, being a member of the Athletes’ Commission will be a new and very interesting experience. We face important tasks, so we will work for the good of Russian sport and our athletes.

    Stefania Elfutina, Olympic bronze medalist in sailing:

    – It is a great honor for me to be a part of such an important organization, to be close to such titled athletes. We will do our best to contribute to the development of the Olympic movement and help our colleagues.

    Yuri Borzakovsky, Olympic champion in athletics:

    – I would like to ask the candidates, who failed to be elected to the Athletes’ Commission, not to quit what they started, but to work actively in the AC in the national sports federations. This will help to solve arising problems more efficiently.

    Tagir Khaibulaev, Olympic champion in judo:

    – It was a pleasure to work with you all these years. It is nice to see new faces in the Commission. It is the right renewal. I would like to wish everyone success and that your work will help our athletes to achieve the highest results.

    Officially, the results of the elections and the composition of the Athletes’ Committee were approved by the Executive Board of the ROC at its meeting on 24 November.
