Fedor Emelianenko: “The time has come to return to the ring”
The most titled Russian athlete in the history of mixed martial arts Fedor Emelianenko will return to the ring after a three year break! Famous mixed martial artist, who has been holding the post of Adviser to the Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko since November 2012, told the press service of the Russian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Union about his career revival.
For every athlete it is very important to be able to engage in their favorite thing: give all the best in training, performing in competitions, defending the honor of the motherland, – the Press Service of the Russian MMA Union quotes the words of Fedor Emelianenko. – During my time at the Sports Ministry I was able to work on the development of martial arts, work closely with the presidents of sports federations, recognize the problems from within the sport and as far as possible, try to solve them. But now I feel that it is time to return to the ring.
“I was able to recover and heal old injuries. The last three years I have maintained physical form, but this level is not enough to go into battle. Therefore recently I started intensive training. We have assembled a team of versatile coaches and athletes who will help me in the training process. I will try to train with fighter that will help me grow professionaly. There is still work to do to prepare to enter the ring. Negotiations are underway with promotions. Once agreements are reached, there will be information on the date of the fight and rival,” – concluded Fedor Emelianenko.
Russian mixed style fighter won 35 out of 40 MMA fights, 12 of which ended in knockouts and 15 in submissions. Fedor Emelianenko ended his sporting career in July 2012, after the victory over Brazilian Pedro Rizzo at the M-1 Global in St. Petersburg.
Fedor Emelianenko is the Head of the Russian MMA Union and a mixed martial arts multiple world champion, seven-time world champion in combat Sambo, Honoured Master of Sports in Sambo and Master of Sports International Class in Judo.
