Nadezhda Bazhina and Kristina Ilyinikh  took 14th place and missed the quota in the Synchronized Springboard. However, Kristina Ilyinikh and Diana Chaplieva managed to obtain a quota place for the team in the Individual Springboard.

European champions Yulia Timoshinina and Yekaterina Petukhova performed in the Synchronized Platform Diving in Rio de Janeiro (see the photo). They were 7th, which prevented them from qualifying  for the Olympic Games. Later, both athletes won quotas in the Individual Platform.

As for the men’s team headed by the 2012 Olympic champion Ilya Zakharov, a full complement of six quota places was successfully secured at the last year’s FINA World Championships in Kazan. Thus, at the Games in Rio the Russian team  will be presented in 6 out of 8   diving disciplines.

It should be noted that the World Cup 2016 was held in the outdoor pool and the wind was fairly strong. And during the women’s Synchronized Platform event it rained. Thus the weather also played its part. Interestingly, that several times the International Swimming Federation FINA called on the 2016 Olympic Games Organizing Committee to cover the pool, but they didn’t meet understanding.

All quotas obtained are not personalized. The composition of the team to perform at the Rio Games will be determined at the Championship of Russia, to be held in Penza  June 7-12.
