Stanislav Shevchenko: “The match against the Argentina team was controlled by our volleyball players”

Russia’s women’s national volleyball team won the 4th victory in a row at the World Cup held in Tokyo (Japan). This morning Yuri Marichev’s team defeated Argentina 3-0 (10-25, 10-25, 16-25). Alexandra Pasynkova (14 points) and Natalya Obmochaeva (13) became  the most effective athletes of the Russian team.

“The match against the Argentina team was controlled by our volleyball players. After all, the  class of the Russian team is higher than that of the opponent. The girls have successfully accomplished the task set before them at the meeting, that is not to lose concentration throughout the match. In addition, all volleyball players got playing time, it is also great, because the main matches of the tournament are yet to come,” – said Stanislav Shevchenko, President of the Russian Volleyball Federation (RVF), in an interview with the ROC Information Service.

According to the Head of the RVF, the key to success in the next match against Cuba, to be held on August 27, will be in good returns and good serves.

“Cuba team is a young team which includes world-class players. In this match, I wish the girls to produce good returns and, of course, good serves. We can’t lose points,” – said Stanislav Shevchenko.

“We have prepared hard for the match against Argentina – Yuri Marichev, the Head coach of Russian team, was quoted on the official website of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). – Our goal in this match was to maintain concentration from start to finish and we did it. In the past there were matches when we had won the first game and then lost concentration. Now we are leading, but so far it does not mean anything, because  tough matches are yet to come.”

Opposite hitter of the Russian team Natalya Obmochaeva believes that playing like that her team can win the World Cup.

“I am glad that we won with the score 3-0, – said Obmochaeva in her interview to the official site of FIVB. We were all very concentrated from the start. The team is in good form. I feel physically and psychologically confident. If we continue to play in the same spirit, we can win the tournament.”

The Russian team is holding the top spot in the World Cup standings with 11 points. It should be recalled that at the end of the competition in Japan the top two teams will qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
