ROC President Alexander Zhukov attended the SportAccord Convention

President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Alexander Zhukov attended the XII SportAccord International Convention in Belek (Turkey).

Within the framework of this event the head of the ROC and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Zhukov not only visited the meeting of the SportAccord Convention General Assembly, but also held a number of important bilateral meetings with representatives of the international sports movement.

Zhukov met with the IOC President Thomas Bach. They discussed the legacy of the  XXII Sochi Olympic Winter Games, the prospects for further development of the IOC activities and more.

In addition, the ROC president discussed the development of basketball, both in Russsia and at the international level with the Secretary General of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Patrick Baumann.

During the SportAccord exhibition Zhukov visited the information stand of Ufa – Russia’s candidate city to host the XI World Games on national and non-Olympic sports in 2021. He expressed his support, endorsing the initiative to conduct these competitions.

World Games on national and non-Olympic sports are held by the International World Games Association (IWGA) every four years in the period between the Olympic Games. The program includes more than 30 non-Olympic sports. First these Games were held in 1981 in the USA. In 2013, they were held in  Colombia, in 2017 they are scheduled to be held in Poland.
