Nikolay Khrenkov a member of the Russian bobsleigh team died in a car accident near Krasnoyarsk

Nikolay Khrenkov Russian National Bobsleigh Team member who competed at the Sochi Olympics died in a car accident on the Krasnoyarsk-Zheleznogorsk highway Monday.

“On behalf of the Russian Olympic Committee and myself I express my deepest condolences to friends and relatives of Russian bobsledder Nikolay Khrenkov. Talented athlete died young, but he will remain in our hearts forever — the ROC President Alexander Zhukov expressed his sorrow at the tragic loss of an athlete.

– Nikolay was an excellent example for the young athletes and was an idol for many fans. Our language fails to express how deeply and profoundly we feel pain in our heart.”

The accident occurred in the afternoon. The athlete was traveling to Zheleznogorsk to see his parents. According to preliminary data  his Honda Accord went into a head-on collision with VAZ 2110.

Russian bobsledder Nikolay Khrenkov was born in Zheleznogorsk (Krasnoyarsk Territory) July 15, 1984. He was a push athlete. He has been performing for Russia since 2009. Khrenkov was twice a European Championship silver medallist four-man bobsled (2011, 2012). He was also a champion of Russia in 2011. In the 2011/2012 season Nikolay, became the winner of the stage of World Cup and three times silver medallist. He was part of the Russia-3 sled that finished 15th in the four-man bobsleigh at the Sochi Games.
