An exhibition of children’s drawings “Our children. Our Games. Our Sochi!” was opened at the State Duma

An exhibition of children’s drawings “Our children. Our Games. Our Sochi!” was opened at the State Duma. It is dedicated to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The opening ceremony was attended by Sergey Naryshkin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Alexander Zhukov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, President of the Russian Olympic Committee and member of the International Olympic Committee, State Duma deputies, as well as participants and guests of the exhibition.

A review competition among the students of children’s artistic schools, fine arts departments of the children’s art schools and art studios was established by a Non-profit fund aimed at promoting national culture and art, All-Russian public organization Union of Artists of Russia and the “Russian Gallery – XXI century” magazine. The objective of the competition was to reflect in the children’s art such momentous event in the  modern Russian history as the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Young contestants received a great opportunity to demonstrate their artistic skills, to express their inner world and to share their thoughts and emotions. As a result of this large-scale event a special issue (No. 6/2013) of the “Russian Gallery – XXI Century” magazine with the works of all participants of the project will be published, an exhibition of the works will take place and diplomas and memorable gifts will be presented to the competition winners and all participants.

Over twenty-five educational institutions based in Russia and CIS countries submitted their works to the contest. The number (more than 350) and the quality of submitted works demonstrated that not only adult professional artists enjoyed the privilege of artistic search and experiment but children as well. Despite their  young age and lack of experience, the contestants managed to build clear and at the same time original compositions on the topic of winter sports in all of its aspects.

It is no secret that the ability to use every opportunity to express thoughts and feelings with the use of fine arts requires constant work and patience. All authors, whose works were presented at the contest, posses these qualities. It is worth noting that all the children’s art institutions that participated in the show, annually represent their works at numerous exhibitions and win prizes and diplomas at international, national  and city competitions. High level and distinctive originality of the students’ works prove it. Obviously, artistic achievements and discoveries of the project “Our Children. Our Games. Our Sochi!” have become the key to inexhaustible possibilities of children’s creativity.

“The best works of the young artists, represented at the photo exhibition, will be displayed in the Russian Olympic team House during the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi”, – said the ROC President Alexander Zhukov.
