Belogorye Volleyball team won the Champions League final
Russian Volleyball Club Belogorye collected their third gold in the Champions League final with 3:1 (25:18 , 22:25, 25:16, 27:25) victory over Turkish Halkbank.
It is worth noting that an outside hitterSergei Tetyuhin of Belogorye was called the most valuable player of the Final Four. For 38-year old Russian player this victory in the Champions League was the fourth in his career. He also has one silver and two bronze awards of the tournament.
It was exactly ten years ago that Gennady Shipulin’s team last became the strongest in Europe. They defeated Iskra Odintsovo at home then. After that the Belgorod team won bronze twice in a row, and then they did not get to the Final Four. Alongside with the honorary trophy Belogorye received the right to perform at the Club World Championship.
Thus, the Russian club has won the continent’s most prestigious tournament for the third time in a row. In 2012 Volleyball Club Zenith-Kazan celebrated its success – this time they have become only fourth, and last season Locomotive-Novosibirsk won the home Final Four.
It is to be recalled that women’s Champions League this year, was also won by the Russian club — Dynamo-Kazan.
