Mario Andrada: “If you can save, it is better to save”
The budget of the Rio de Janeiro Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games has increased by 400 million Brazilian Reals ($100 million) over the last month due to the depreciation of the national currency. According to the Brazilian news portal Uol, the leadership of the Organizing Committee, however, is not going to change its decision to save some funds on the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games.
It is to be recalled that the decision was taken by the organizers of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad due to the country’s difficult economic situation.
“We receive most of the income in dollars — said the Rio 2016 Communications Director Mario Andrada, speaking about the funds allocated by the IOC for organization and staging of the Games, as well as referring to the income from the sale of rights to broadcast the competition and contracts with international sponsors. – We are part of Brazil. One should not think that we live on an island money of our own. Our situation is somewhat better than the other’s, thanks to the income sources, but what we want most is this crisis to be over. It is necessary to give the right signal to the audience, to demonstrate maturity. If you can save, it is better to save,”- he concluded.
The Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in will be held from 5 to 21 August 2016 and will be the first to be held on the territory of South America.
