René Fasel: “I will do my best to hold the 2023 Ice Hockey World Junior Championships in Novosibirsk”
IIHF President René Fasel shared his opinion on the organization of the World Championships, which is underway in Moscow and St. Petersburg. He also said that he will support the application of Novosibirsk to host the 2023 World Junior Championships.
“It’s a great idea to hold the World Junior Championships in Novosibirsk. Under the rules every two years this tournament must be held in Canada. The schedule is set until 2021. In 2022 the Youth Forum will most likely take place in Sweden and in a year there is a great possibility that the competition will be held in Novosibirsk. The final decision will be made in September, but I will make every effort to let Siberia see the best young Ice Hockey players of the world. Novosibirsk has time to prepare,” – said the IIHF President during the break of the Russia vs Germany game.
“I also want to say that I am impressed with the organization of the World Championships in Moscow and St. Petersburg,” Rene Fasel continued. “The level is very high. Actually, I didn’t expect anything less. We all know that Russians love sport and know how to how to receive guests.”
