On September 5, as part of the 5th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed on ROC’s presentation platform between the Russian Olympic Committee and the Japanese Olympic Committee. The agreement is intended to promote the development of the partnership between the two NOCs, strengthen friendly relations between athletes of both countries, and deepen mutual understanding between the peoples of Russia and Japan.

The document was signed by the President of the ROC Stanislav Pozdnyakov and the Head of the Japanese Olympic Committee, Yasuhiro Yamashita. The honorary guests of the ceremony were Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports and First Vice President of the ROC Igor Levitin, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Pavel Kolobkov, IOC Deputy Director General Pere Miró, and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

The Memorandum of Cooperation provides for organizing planned exchanges of athletes and coaches between the national sports federations of both countries for them to participate in competitions and training camps, as well as exchanges of officials, staff, instructors, judges, experts and researchers for their participation in seminars, courses and consultations on issues of coaching, medicine and anti-doping.

    Stanislav Pozdnyakov:

    – By signing this agreement, we are opening a new page in cooperation with the National Olympic Committee of Japan. Recently, we have had several working meetings with our Japanese colleagues, and during the negotiations we reached common opinion on the need to expand cooperation in several key areas of the Olympic agenda. For instance, in the sphere of public sports. The Summer Olympics, starting next July, are of course one of the most important events. ROC is trying to provide the most comfortable conditions for our athletes during their stay in Tokyo, which will contribute to their successful performance. From this viewpoint, the agreement with the Japanese Olympic Committee plays a crucial role.

    Yasuhiro Yamashita:

    – As the President of the Japanese Olympic Committee, I am very pleased that today we have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation that will allow us to develop relations between our NOCs in various sports and directions. Next year, the Summer Olympics kick off in Tokyo and we look forward to the arrival of Russian athletes – they will be welcomed warmly and assisted in every way. I would like to wish the Russian Olympic Team and the Russian Olympic Committee success in achieving their goals.

As part of the Memorandum’s signing ceremony, attended by Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and First Vice President of the ROC Igor Levitin, and IOC Deputy Director General Pere Miró, participants and guests also had the chance to look at the unique exhibition of artifacts of the 1980 Summer Olympics, which occupies a central place on ROC’s platform (organized as part of EEF 2019) in the centre of Vladivostok and is open to the public.
