May 14 is the last day of submitting formal applications for nomination of candidates for the post of President of the Russian Olympic Committee. Two four-time Olympic Champions became candidates for this position: Stanislav Pozdnyakov and Alexander Popov.
First Vice-President of the ROC, Head of the Russian delegation at the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, was nominated by 35 members of the ROC, among them:
- 17 all-Russian sports federations (Cross-Country Ski Federation, Russian Judo Federation, Volleyball Federation of Russia, Russian Fencing Federation, Russian Archery Federation, Russian Rowing Federation, Russian Sambo Federation, Russian Federation of Dancing Sports and Acrobatic Rock-n-Roll, Figure Skating Federation of Russia, Freestyle Federation of Russia, National Badminton Federation, the Russian Modern Pentathlon Federation, Russian Snowboard Federation, Russian Wrestling Federation, Russian Synchronized Swimming Federation, Russian Water Polo Federation, Russian Diving Federation), as well as
- 11 Olympic councils
- 2 Olympic academies and
- 5 public organizations, including the Russian Athletes’ Union and the Russian Students Sports Union
Alexander Popov became a candidate from the Shooting Union of Russia.
The Olympic meeting, which will include the election of the President and members of the Executive Committee of the ROC, will be held on may 29.
