Today, August 21, within the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Committee meeting held in Beijing (China) it was decided to bestow the IOC’s highest award – the Gold Olympic Order upon the IOC member, Honorary President of the Russian Olympic Committee Vitaliy Smirnov, for particularly distinguished contributions to the Olympic Movement. The Russian Olympic Committee congratulates Vitaly Smirnov on receiving this high reward!

Today, on March 31, Vladimir Sengleev, Director General of the Russian Olympic Committee, celebrates his 48th birthday. From 1998 to 2010 Vladimir Sengleev held senior positions in the executive branch of the Republic of Kalmykia: Minister of Economy of the Republic of Kalmykia, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kalmykia and the Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Kalmykia.

A prominent Soviet ice hockey player, two-time Olympic champion and a player of the legendary USSR-Canada Super Series of 1972 Boris Mikhailov is celebrating his 70th anniversary. Mikhailov has gone down in history of Russian hockey. Over many years, he has been playing for CSKA and the USSR national team in the legendary trio with Vladimir Petrov and Valery Kharlamov.
