The President of the Russian Olympic Committee, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, launched Winter Sports Day in Moscow and visited the master classes of Olympic champions and the stands of the All-Russian federations in the winter sports Pavilion.

    – Dear friends, Muscovites and guests of the capital, sports fans, especially winter sports fans! Today is a special day, – said Stanislav Pozdnyakov. – We remember the most successful Olympic Games in the history of Russian sports – the 2014 Games in Sochi. It is a great honour to once again pronounce the names of our athletes who won awards there. Those medals would have been impossible without their dedicated effort, the work of coaches, specialists, doctors, organizers and, of course, fans who gave their support. This is our common victory, which is always a pleasure to remember.

During this sports festival we must also remember the athletes who competed for medals in snowy and frosty Pyeongchang. You remember the circumstances that surrounded the formation of our team so the possibilities for great success were very limited. But, in spite of everything, our Olympians made a dignified performance in South Korea. And the icing on the cake at the 2018 Games was the long-awaited victory of our hockey players, as well as the outcome of the final match which is in our memory forever.

Right now, our athletes are performing at international competitions: at the World and European championships and the World Cup stages. We all know how well they do it. It will not be superfluous to once again support our athletes who are bound to start soon. I am sure that our smiles and support, even from a distance, will help them succeed.

With us on the same stage are the legends of national sport – our Olympic champions, and the current generation of athletes is trying to equal them. It is a great honour to be handed down these traditions and continue them.

Winter Sports Day is one of the most important sports events held by ROC within the framework of the Olympic Country project. Winter disciplines form Russia’s landmark in sports. We have all the necessary components for the success in the Olympics and other major international competitions.

We are doing everything possible to popularize sports, the ideas and spirit of Olympism among our citizens. It is important that this sports festival takes place throughout the country: from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad. In every corner of the country, people should remember the high-profile domestic victories in sports and also get acquainted with skiing, biathlon, ice-skating, hockey, and figure skating. Winter sports are close to every Russian person, we have known these sports since childhood and, I hope, we will pass on the experience and knowledge from generation to generation.
